“Me” Time for Moms and Dads

It’s time for soccer!  Let’s get going to baseball!  You’re late for dance!  Your basketball game is in an hour!  And, the list of activities goes on and on and on….

As a mom, I really do not know how we, moms and dads, do it.  We must have a lot of organizational skills to pull together a hectic schedule.  When our kids are young, we assume that it gets easier as our children get older.  It realistically does not get any easier.  It just changes.  We may not be warming up formula, but we are a chauffeur, a counselor, a mentor, a tutor, and a parent.  It can get to become overwhelming. 

Parents need alone time.  When we have to lug sporting equipment out of the car so that our child can run to their practice without being late, I think we definitely deserve some time to ourselves.  My favorite time is when I get a cup of coffee, put down all distractions, and just enjoy the aroma of the coffee.  This is my “me” time.  It is my personal meditation, a time when I can just focus on my goals and ambitions.  I think we all deserve the “me” time.

First and foremost, we are a parent.  However, it does not mean that we forget that we are individuals as well.  We all make mistakes.  So, if you are overwhelmed and cannot seem to manage the amount of work it takes to be superhuman with all of the activities, it is always alright to ask for help.  We all need help sometimes.  Arranging a carpool would be a fantastic idea with people you know and trust.  It may even let you have some of the most desired “me” time.

Raising children is not easy, but we should enjoy every minute of it.  Before you know it, they will be off to college and all we have left is the memory of their youth.
